Job DescriptionPositionAssociate Scientist in Protein SciencesOverview: As an Associate Scientist in the Protein Sciences department, you will play a crucial role in the synthesis and characterization of proteins. Under the guidance of experienced scientists, you will apply foundational knowledge in protein science to support collaborative projects. Your responsibilities will include executing protein synthesis protocols, analyzing protein structures, and interpreting results to further the team's scientific objectives and the company's research goals.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field, with practical experience in research settings. Commitment to professional development, strong organizational and communication abilities, and a team-oriented, innovative mindset are essential.Key Responsibilities:Protein Production and Purification:Execute protein production and purification protocols, adhering to established guidelines.Strive for process improvements.Sample Analysis:Analyze protein samples using biochemical and biophysical methods.Interpret data to inform project directions and troubleshoot issues.Method Development:Participate in developing and optimizing new methods and techniques under mentorship.Data Interpretation:Utilize software and statistical tools to interpret, analyze, and present experimental data.Ensure high accuracy and reliability.Record Keeping:Maintain meticulous records of experimental protocols, data, and findings in laboratory notebooks and databases.Scientific Updates:Review scientific publications and stay updated on emerging methodologies.Enhance experimental protocol development and refinement.Project Participation:Contribute to project meetings and scientific discussions.Provide insights and updates on research progress.Research Findings:Assist in interpreting research findings and identifying next steps for further study or product improvement.Collaboration:Develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues within the protein department and across different functional teams.Enhance collaborative problem-solving and project advancement.Regulatory Compliance:Author, update, and assist in maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality protocols.Ensure adherence to regulatory standards.Lab Maintenance:Maintain the cleanliness and order of the lab.Notify the appropriate person of any equipment-related concerns.Safety Compliance:Understand, follow, and embrace laboratory safety policies.Ensure compliance with company safety requirements and regulatory guidelines.Additional Duties:Execute other assigned duties and responsibilities.Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to the organization's goals.Qualifications:Preferred Education:Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience.Minimum Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in a relevant life science discipline with at least 4 years of relevant experience.Experience:A minimum of 4 years of hands-on lab experience.Familiarity with protein expression, purification, and characterization techniques.Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to translate information into meaningful and understandable contexts and messages.Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and application of learned techniques.Comfort with hands-on laboratory techniques, including setting up reaction apparatus and handling reagents.Ability to develop and maintain professional, trusting, positive working relationships.Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations.High ethical and confidentiality standards.Strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office applications.Job Specifics:Employment Type:Permanent, full-time position.Security Clearance:Must be eligible to secure approval from the Department of Defense for Controlled Unclassified Information.Work Schedule:Monday through Friday, with core hours from 10:00 am ET to 3:00 pm ET.Flexible schedule outside these hours.Minimal requirement for working more than 8 hours a day and/or on weekends, depending on project deadlines.Work Arrangement:Onsite work 5X per week Physical Requirements:Ability to work in a laboratory setting for extended periods.Manual dexterity for handling delicate laboratory instruments.Standing or sitting for long durations.Lifting materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.Clear vision for observing experiments and data.Safely handling hazardous chemicals with protective equipment.Occasional walking, using hands and fingers to operate tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.Job Hazards:Potential exposure to animal materials (plasma, serum, blood, organs).Handling other hazardous substances of chemical or biological origin after training.
