Job Description:

Job purposeThis position encompasses the supervision of international logistics overseen by SSAB Alabama Inc. This includes the importation of material into Canada and the United States and the exportation of material out of SSAB Alabama to various countries around the world.Duties and responsibilitiesManage the receipt, storage and shipment of import material arriving the port of discharge; to include, monitoring port and stevedoring resources and performance during discharge operations.Develop and implement cost effective solutions to move material between U.S. and Canadian origins and destinations; to include, identifying and implementing solutions to maintain throughput efficiency and enhance delivery performance; and managing the freight invoice approval process to ensure charges are valid and payments are accurate and timely.Develop and maintain adequate equipment capacity to support operations; to include, monitoring the movement of material from the various ports of origin against communicated targets.Manage the accounting and reconciliation of discharged and shipped material at the various ports of entry; to include, maintaining compliance with applicable customs regulations (imports and exports) within each country of discharge. Resolve any disputes that might arise from the process; to include, coordinating investigation and respond to any customs inquiry and/or audit.Manage the procurement of services related to vessel chartering, vessel bookings, warehousing, and loading; to include planning and coordinating export shipments with mill operations using the most cost-effective mode of transport.Monitor the flow of material to the ports of loading, manage the receipt, storage and loading of export material.Monitor port and stevedoring resources and performance during loading operations.Execute export shipments and provide customer with required documentation.QualificationsRequired Education & Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience8 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of supply chain logistics, procurement and management of transportation services in a manufacturing environmentProcurement skills related to negotiating transportation contracts is mandatory.Supervisory skills to include direct responsibility for performance evaluations of others, hiring, mentoring, etc.Heavy experience dealing directly with transportation service providers such as railroads, trucking companies (preferably flatbed carriers), barge carriers, ocean vessel carriers, etc.Strong working knowledge and understanding of domestic and international shipments across all modes of transportUnderstanding of international business; to include the use of Incoterms. Understanding and experience in Marine Transportation; to include, vessel chartering, brokering, laytime calculation, port operations, stevedoring, vessel fixture terms, container ops, US CBP (AES) and freight forwardingExceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organizedExcellent computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), including TableauMust be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer serviceAbility to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practicesStrong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive Current/active driver's licensePreferred Education & Experience:Master's Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience10+ years of progressively responsible experience in the field of supply chain logistics, procurement and management of transportation services in a manufacturing environmentExperience in the steel, manufacturing or services industriesWorking conditionsTravel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed
