This is a full time, on-campus, 12-month positionGraceland University has an opening for an Academic Success Coach. This position is designedto offer the intentional interventions necessary to break down barriers to higher education forstudents without strong academic preparation as well as students who are on academicprobation. The Academic Success Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits thatcontribute to success in college, including academic and career goal setting, learning strategies,time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy. This position reports to theDirector of TRIO Student Support Services and works in collaboration with the TRIO SSS Teamand other support services on campus.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIESBACHELOR'S DEGREE in related field.Experience assisting and assessing students/clients in academic and/or life skills.Experience working respectfully and authentically with all diverse identities.Ability to handle confidential informationAbility to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, andresourcefulness when dealing with staff, students, and faculty.Ability to critically assess situations, maintain attention to detail, solve problems, workefficiently under stress, within deadlines, and changing work priorities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Fosters persistence and completion by maintaining a caseload of first time in collegeand/or transfer of students.Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings orproactive outreach and communication, responding to students' questions, concerns andneedsConducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help studentsassess their own performance and develop academic success plansAssists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles thatmay be impeding academic success; guides students to learn strong time managementand organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownershipof their academic successHelps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and studyskills specific to course materialsRefers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources andcollaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the studentsreferredFacilitate goal setting with students (academic and personal) monitor these goalsOutreach to various student populations to support and engage their transition to GU, withsensitivity to diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and international student populationsProviding guidance to develop students intellectually, emotionally, and socially, keeping inmind the GU values of Learning, Wholeness, and Community Provide a resource for discussing majors and minors, referring students to the appropriatedepartmentsMonitor classroom attendanceImmediate and consistent follow-throughFacilitate tutoringWillingness to work on university committees as assignedAssist students in completing financial aid applications and scholarships, including FAFSAOther duties as assignedPlease submit all materials to .
