Job Description:

Purpose of the Position: The Landscaper III is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of the University. Under the general supervision of the Landscape Supervisor, the Landscaper III will be responsible for the leadership and guidance of other Landscapers and provide high-level proficiency and skills regarding a wide array of technical landscape functions to ensure proper installation and maintenance of UAH grounds and landscape. Duties/Responsibilities Lead, direct, and participate in the installation, care, and maintenance of campus turfgrass and landscaping: * Assist Landscape Supervisor with planning landscape projects within assigned zones. * Create, assign, and manage work order requests and project priorities for work performed by assigned landscape crew. * Lead assigned landscape crew in the performance of a variety of technical landscape-related duties on campus landscaping, including proper plant placement and installation, sod installation, skilled pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs, mechanical and chemical weed management, landscape bed edging, and mulching. * When necessary, lead assigned landscape crew in performance of regular turfgrass maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing. * Safely operate heavy equipment including tractors, backhoes, sweepers, and forklifts. Safely operate task utility vehicles, dump trucks, and other landscaping equipment. * Remove trash and other debris, including leaves, from assigned zones with motorized and hand equipment. Assist with the development of Landscaper employees: * Lead, mentor, and train Landscaper I and Landscaper II employees. Assist with ornamental and turfgrass pest diagnosis and application: * Assist with diagnosing plant disease, pests, drought stress, and other plant needs. * Communicate with Landscape Supervisor to schedule proper treatment needed to correct any plant needs and/or deficiencies. * Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in assigned zones when necessary. Oversee and perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment: * Ensure air filters are checked and cleaned on a daily basis. * Ensure proper fluid levels are monitored and maintained. * Report any equipment problems to Grounds Mechanic. * Meet and maintain training and certification requirements as outlined by the department's training and credentialing requirements. Minimum Requirements: * High school education or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience * 3 years of full-time verifiable grounds or Landscaping installation, and maintenance work experience * Working knowledge of landscaping and maintenance techniques and equipment * Must consistently project a professional demeanor, positive attitude, and professionally communicate with and answer inquiries from visitors and the University community * This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes but is not limited to, possessing a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University's insurance company.
