We are looking for a passionate individual with excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills to make a significant impact on businesses and industries across South Dakota. As a Safety Consultant, you'll be at the forefront of implementing the Federal OSHA Consultation Program grant, providing invaluable support to our community. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12 month, full-time, benefits-eligible position. The mission of the SDSU Engineering Extension is to effectively implement the requirements of the Federal OSHA Consultation Program grant which is designed to assist private sector small and medium-sized employers with safety and health program assessments. Active employer involvement reduces direct and indirect costs and benefits economic development. The OSHA On-site Consultation Program is a key effort of Engineering Extension. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide support to South Dakota businesses and industries by successfully executing the requirements of the Federal OSHA Consultation Program grant. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management, Health, Safety, Construction Management, Technology, or related field completed by start date. Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office software. Demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal relations, and motivational skills with staff, faculty, students, construction project managers, industrial plant managers, company officers, production/maintenance workers, and construction personnel. Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire and willingness to travel. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of one year of familiarity and experience with OSHA General Industry and/or Construction Standards, OSHA Consultation Programs/Policies/Procedures. Experience in identifying and evaluating safety hazards in the workplace. Experience in abating identified safety hazards according to OSHA standards. There are frequent deviations from normal work hours which include early mornings, late evenings, out-of-town stays during the week, and out of town stays over the weekend. These irregular work hours occur for many reasons such as required participation at meetings, training, and to best serve the customer. Travel is a part of the position.
