POSITION SUMMARY: Supports BMI attorneys who handle new deals for BMI-affiliated songwriters, composers, and music publishers. Works closely with BMI attorneys, clients in the Creative department and other departments and affiliates' teams. Coordinates deal flow by ensuring the attorneys have necessary information to draft agreements. Tracks negotiations with affiliates' counselmanagement team. Ensures necessary documentation is collected for deal and affiliation processing. LOCATION: New York, NY office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority. FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Gathers requisite information from Creative or affiliates' teams related to various deals for BMI-affiliated songwriters, composers, and music publishers to facilitate drafting of agreements. Organizes deal information to ensure efficient and accurate drafting of agreements. Reviews agreements to ensure accuracy of information. Tracks deal progress, including negotiations with affiliate teams. Alerts attorneys to delays or other issues. Assists attorneys and the Creative department's Business Affairs team on reporting. Coordinates with internal departments and serves as primary administrative contact in the Legal department for the Creative, Accounting, Affiliations, and Administration teams in processing agreements, ensuring payment under the agreement, new affiliations, catalog sales, transfers from other societies, or limited territory affiliations. Works with attorneys and clients to improve processes and organize deal flow. Manages deal flow with a high degree of independence, organization, and attention to detail. Interacts with other BMI attorneys and BMI management with respect to all responsibilities. Assists the attorneys in the Legal Department on specific projects. Supports other legal assistants and legal administration staff in various tasks, which may include managing incoming mail, department supplies, and file management. Other duties supporting the Legal department as assigned. Regular attendance. Supports BMI Core Values and cultivates a culture of diversity and inclusion. POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in an office environment preferred. Prior paralegal experience preferred. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Prior experience in a music industry or entertainment industry role is helpful. Team player who brings a can-do attitude to new tasks. Strong oral and written communication skills. High level of confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain a constructive and informative relationship with affiliates' counsel and key representatives of affiliates' management teams and interact professionally. Ability to effectively collaborate, and act as a liaison, with all levels of personnel and departments. Detail oriented and very strong organizational skills. Able to manage a high-volume case load and perform at a high level, even if under occasional time pressure. Ability to perform research, summarize information and report back findings. Ability to multi-task, work independently and take initiative. Ability to independently solve non-legal problems and issues. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Excel, with the ability to learn BMI's systems. Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 (USD).The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience and education. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors.
