Job Description Avon Lane, LLC is the private office of the Gerstner family providing strategic support services to the family and supporting the growing work of Gerstner Philanthropies. About the Organization Avon Lane, LLC oversees all activities to support a philanthropically minded family, including accounting, tax, charitable giving, estate planning, insurance, legal coordination, investment, and banking needs. Additionally, Avon Lane provides concierge services for the family's estate management, bill paying, and transportation maintenance and safety. Equally as important, Avon Lane, LLC oversees all aspects of financial management and planning for Gerstner Philanthropies. Gerstner Philanthropies was founded in 1989 by Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. and has four program areas: Biomedical Research, Education, Environment, and Emergency Assistance (what we call Helping Hands). Most grants are made to organizations in communities where the Gerstner family live and work, which include New York, Boston, and Palm Beach County. About the Role What You'll Do The Vice President of Finance oversees financial reporting and investment management functions for Avon Lane, LLC. This role requires a strategic mindset to safeguard, manage and grow assets while navigating the complexities of multi-generational wealth management. The VP, Finance is also deeply involved in managing the financial and operational aspects of Gerstner Philanthropies, supporting its mission and ensuring its philanthropic goals are achieved with precision and impact. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with exceptional technical expertise and a commitment to service. This role requires balancing strategic financial planning with hands-on execution, fostering trust, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity. Key Responsibilities Financial Management and Reporting Prepare and deliver financial reports for family office stakeholders, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and effective synthesis of critical financial information Synthesize information to provide thematic insights and takeaways for the Board and leadership team Oversee all financial operations, including: Maintenance and oversight of daily general ledger entries Weekly cash reconciliations and cash flow reports Payables / remittances Develop and maintain cash budgets and projections, including coordination with the grants manager to forecast cash needs for grant payments; handle all capital calls, distributions, and related record-keeping. Calculate and allocate annual chargebacks to family office clients Investment Operations and Analysis Prepare monthly investment reports and participate in Investment Committee meetings Compile alternative investment performance reports on a quarterly basis Assist the family office President with investment research and execution; conduct research on potential investments based on directives from the Investment Committee Write monthly investment portfolio commentaries and summarize key insights from investment manager updates Lead projects to enhance investment processes, including improving reporting on holdings, risk allocation, and returns Tax, Compliance, and Audits Collaborate with the external tax consultants to provide requested documentation and review tax returns Coordinate documentation and manage the annual Agreed Upon Procedures review Ensure compliance with all regulatory and family office governance requirements Risk and Insurance Management Oversee the relationship with insurance providers, including managing the annual renewal process Monitor private aviation usage and expenses Additional Leadership Lead and implement major projects, such as evaluating custody arrangements for treasury holdings or assessing the technology stack for financial and investment monitoring Manage HR systems and maintain the family office benefits portfolio Facilitate enhancements to operational tools and processes to improve efficiency and service delivery Collaborate with the grants manager to ensure smooth financial operations for grant payments and charitable initiatives Support the President and family members with ad hoc strategic initiatives and bespoke financial analyses Act as a trusted resource for evolving family office needs, ensuring alignment with broader goals and values Who You'll Work With You will report to Avon Lane, LLC's President and oversee a direct report, a part-time accountant, and be supported by a bookkeeper who handles accounts payable for personal household expenses. You will also collaborate closely with Gerstner Philanthropies grants management and program teams. Required Skills and Experience 10-15 years of progressive experience in a family office, wealth management firm, or large foundation, with demonstrated success in managing complex financial operations CPA designation required, with a background in public accounting Extensive experience in tax planning, compliance, and financial reporting Proficiency in managing alternative investments, asset allocation, and wealth management strategies Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate and collaborate across diverse professional advisors, including legal, tax, and investment professionals Ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely to summarize key points and recommendations regarding complex issues and decisions A genuine interest in and commitment to supporting the family's philanthropic vision and ambitious goals through sound financial stewardship Detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with the ability to balance strategic planning and hands-on execution Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Google Suite, as well as a thorough knowledge and comfort of basic web skills required Compensation The salary range for this role is $325K-$375K, commensurate with experience.
