This position is responsible to assist in the implementation of the Lyles Construction Group's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). In addition, this position will work closely with management to develop and implement safety policies and procedures, conduct safety audits, and provide training to promote safety awareness and a Zero Incident Safety Culture.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesActively supports the achievement of company goals and objectives by applying knowledge of construction safety.Continuously strives to improve day-to-day processes and practices in safety and ensure project activities remain focused on safety.Collaborates with Project Supervisors and builds consistency in safety practices and procedures on all efforts.Ensures policies, procedures, and standards are followed and communicated to all personnel.Develop and implement the safety programs and conduct safety meetings and training sessions.Ensure safety orientation training is conducted for all employees to include field craft personnel.Assists in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities.Ensures adherence to company and regulatory policies and practices through conducting regular walk-through inspections of construction work areas to identify, document and recommend corrective actions to prevent hazardous conditions and ensure corrections have been made.Collaborates with Project Supervisors, Superintendents, and Estimators to prepare and review customer safety requirements pre and post event or incident.Assist in establishing policies for preventative or corrective safety actions through studying accidents/near miss incidents and potential risks in general work environments.Conducts safety investigations for personal injury and property damage accidents; prepares forms and incident reports in accordance with federal, state, local regulations associated with incident.Assists in facilitating the return-to-work program for injured workers by maintaining communication with injured workers on a regular basis to ensure compliance with the program guidelines.Partner with Project Supervisors and Craft personnel to mitigate safety issues such as confined space, excavation, fall protection, etc.Establish and maintain effective business and working relationships with craft personnel, internal and external.Completes internal administrative organization responsibilities and documentation, including training, accidents/incidents, state and federal regulations, lost time, OSHA, DOT, etc. and assist during an OSHA inspection.Occasional travel may be required.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Required Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Occupational Safety/Health or equivalent construction-related safety experience.Minimum of two years construction safety experience, preferably in the construction of water/wastewater treatment plant construction or similar. A good understanding of Cal-OSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.Desired Skills and KnowledgeKnowledge of first aid procedures, techniques, and equipment.In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance of all local, state, federal, and company safety requirements, including Cal OSHA, OSHA, DOT.Knowledge of corporate and industry safety practices, processes, standards, technology, equipment, and methods of their impact on safety activities.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Effective CommunicationConflict ManagementPersonal IntegrityPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
