New hires will be selected for positions based on qualifications CITY PARKS Supervisor: Dennis Arnold, Parks Superintendent Location: Oakdale Park Shop Telephone: 785-826-7275 Email: dennis.arnold@ PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE I (17 years of age or older) This classification is the entry level of the park & facility maintenance series working under immediate supervision. Duties: * Performs manual labor in the maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces. * Prepares & maintains parks, landscape beds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, buildings, medians, & other public facilities. * Performs manual labor & maintenance in the care of park grounds including turf, shrubbery, trees, watering, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, dirt work & related duties. * Provides custodial services in public restrooms including cleaning & trash removal. * Administers basic first aid, if needed. * Responds in emergency situations within scope of training. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Education: * Eighth grade graduate. * CPR & First Aid certifications desired. Experience: * Work in general grounds maintenance to include landscape maintenance, park maintenance or related work; ability to perform work using non-powered hand tools utilized in parks & facilities maintenance, landscape maintenance, & repair work. Equipment: Non-powered hand tools, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, shovels, rakes, & hand held non-powered clippers & edgers, as assigned. Desired Qualifications: * Must be able to follow instructions. * Must be a self-starter & be able to work productively. * Must have excellent problem solving skills & demonstrate good judgement when completing job duties. * Maintains a high standard of customer service. * Maintains positive & cooperative working relationships. * Works indoors/outdoors in changing environmental conditions; must be able to work in temperatures which often exceeds 90 degrees. * Communicates well with patrons of various ages from diverse backgrounds. * Demonstrates kindness to patrons & presents professional attitude at all times. * Must be able to communicate verbally & in writing. Requirements: * Seventeen (17) year olds must possess a valid driver's license to operate utility vehicles & golf carts on city property & non-public access passageways. * Performs all job tasks according to rules & guidelines of Salina Parks & Recreations' safety program & weather alert procedures. * Must have reliable transportation to-and-from work. * Must be available to work shifts. * Must attend required trainings & meetings. * Required to review posted event calendars. * Must follow scheduling protocols & be able to obtain weekly work schedule. * Must follow time & attendance guidelines must adhere to payroll requirements. * Must respond in a timely manner to all forms of communication regarding City of Salina employment by way of phone calls, emails, texts, etc. * Must be able to lift 10-40 pounds frequently. Pay: $12.73-14.73/hr. DOQ PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE II (18 years of age or older) This classification is mid-level of the park & facility maintenance series working under general supervision. Duties: * Responsible to fulfill the duties of the Park & Facility Maintenance I staff, as needed. * Supervises the Park & Facility Maintenance I staff in the absence of the Parks Superintendent. * Performs manual labor in the care, minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces. * Prepares & maintains parks, landscape beds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, buildings, medians, & other public facilities. * Performs manual labor & maintenance in the care of park grounds including turf, shrubbery, trees, watering, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, dirt work, lawn maintenance, mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerification, top dressing, weed & pest control, & related duties. * Provides custodial services in public restrooms including cleaning, trash removal & floor repair. * Services & performs minor repairs to equipment. * Performs routine maintenance & equipment safety inspection. * Applies practices relating to safe equipment operation & maintenance. * Administers basic first aid, if needed. * Responds in emergency situations within scope of training. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Education: * High school diploma or G.E.D. * CPR & First Aid certifications desired. Experience: * Employed for one (1) year in Park & Facility Maintenance I position or demonstrated experience and/or skills to advance to Park & Facility Maintenance II position. * Two (2) years' work experience in general building & facility maintenance and/or landscape maintenance. * Supervisory experience preferred. * Grounds maintenance & equipment operation experience desired, minor construction, maintenance work, mowing, & tree care. * Ability to perform intermediate to advanced work using equipment & tools utilized in parks & facilities maintenance, landscape maintenance, & repair work. Equipment: Drives vehicles, utility vehicles, dump trucks, precision mowers, mowers, back hoes, chippers, man-lifts, medium sized loaders, post-hole digger, rototiller, seeders & top dressers, tractors & attachments. Hand Tools: Chain saws, blowers, power tools, hedge trimmers, sprayers, edgers.
